The GEOPORT Program

Picture

Mission:
The GEOPORT program will send geospatial education professionals (GEOPORTers) to communities around the globe; to train and work with local community members, using geospatial technologies to address their environmental or social needs and challenges.

Learn more about the GEOPORT Program on the Facebook fanpage!

Help make a difference and support the program!  It only takes $7500 to send one GEOPORTer to Costa Rica for a month.  All proceeds go to support efforts "on the ground" to change the world!

Meet the first GEOPORTer

Amy Work will serve as the first GEOPORTer, with her placement in Bahia Ballena. As an education coordinator for IAGT in Auburn, NY she works with with K-12 teachers and college faculty members across in New York and the country to increase students understanding of the world by integrating geospatial technologies into learning environments. As a geographer, she has taken an adventurous route working with colleagues around the globe to share her expertise while learning and exploring our vast world at the same time. Through travels to India examining carbon sequestration projects with rural farmers, out to sea on the JOIDES Resolution to explore ocean drilling science and leading a group of college students to Panama to investigate  the impacts of climate change on biodiversity, she is thrilled about the opportunity to live in and work with youth, educators, and community residents in Bahia Ballena using geospatial technologies. Amy is headed to Costa Rica in August 2012!
